As a parent, it can be heartbreaking to see your child struggle with school and not know how to help. Often, the issue isn’t intelligence — it’s alignment. Every child learns differently, and when their learning style doesn’t match how they’re being taught, frustration sets in.
At Top Tier Tuition, we work closely with families and high-performing learners to identify how each child processes information best. When that alignment happens, confidence returns — and so does academic progress.
Here are the four main learning styles we look out for:
1. Visual Learners – “I need to see it”
These learners absorb information best through pictures, diagrams, colour-coding, and mind maps. They often:
• Remember faces better than names
• Enjoy art, puzzles, or drawing out ideas
• Benefit from flow charts, summary sheets, or videos
Tip for parents: Try using coloured sticky notes when helping them study. Encourage them to draw their understanding of concepts.
2. Auditory Learners – “I need to hear it”
These children remember things they’ve heard more than read. You’ll notice:
• They hum or talk while working
• They enjoy reading out loud or being read to
• They grasp concepts better through discussions
Tip for parents: Read questions or study notes out loud. Let them teach you a concept — it locks it in for them.
3. Kinesthetic Learners – “I need to move with it”
These learners thrive through hands-on activities, role play, and movement. You’ll see:
• They struggle to sit still for long
• They often learn through doing rather than watching
• They love experiments, models, or games
Tip for parents: Use movement while studying. Let them walk around while explaining a concept, or turn learning into a physical game.
4. Reading/Writing Learners – “I need to write it down”
These learners connect deeply with written words. They often:
• Love making lists, taking notes, and writing summaries
• Enjoy journaling or creating flashcards
• Perform better with clear, structured instructions
Tip for parents: Provide blank templates for them to summarise what they’ve learned. Repetition through writing is their superpower.
Why This Matters
When a child’s learning style is understood and respected, learning becomes less of a struggle — and more of an opportunity. It’s not about labelling them, but about empowering them with strategies that actually work for how their brain is wired.
At Top Tier Tuition, we take time to observe, assess, and adapt — because one-size-fits-all doesn’t work for excellence. Our tutors are trained to notice these differences and tailor their approach so your child feels seen, supported, and successful.
Curious about your child’s dominant learning style?
We’d be happy to guide you — whether through a consultation or a personalised support plan.
